COMMITTEES

School Advisory Council

The MMSA School Advisory Council meets the second Tuesday of every month from 6:00-7:00.  Members also commit to hours outside of the official school board meetings by participating on different committees, attendance at fundraising and PR events and in preparing for each month’s meeting.

Parents and/or parishioners are invited to serve a three year team on the school board by either the pastor or the principal.

The School Advisory Council acts as an advisory board to assist the principal.

School Advisory Council mission:  In answer to the call of Jesus Christ, Maternity of Mary ~ St. Andrew Catholic School Advisory Council is dedicated to assisting the pastor and principal in ensuring that we provide a Catholic education that develops the unique gifts of each student, in an environment that promotes academic excellence, spiritual growth, and social responsibility.

Role of the School Advisory Council:  The council provides valuable human and financial resources to the school.  The old "w-rule" still applies today as some bring wisdom, some the ability to work on projects and some bring wealth.

  • Formulate long range strategic planning
  • Develop an annual budget with the school principal and appropriate financial staff of the school and parish
  • Review and recommend policy changes to the pastor and principal (note policy initiative usually begins with the principal with the board assisting with research and consultation)
  • Develop a plan for the long range financial security of the school, including major fundraising projects
  • Assist with marketing the school and acting as ambassador of good will for the school
  • Establish annual goals/objectives for the board to achieve
  • Evaluate itself in light of its goals/objectives
  • Assist the pastor in the selection of a new principal

Home and School Association

The purpose of the Home and School Association is to help build community and communication.

Our group meets monthly.  We welcome and encourage parents to come to a meeting to listen and offer their unique insights.  If childcare is an issue, you are welcome to bring your children along with snacks and a quiet activity.  They can play while we meet.

Also, hours served attending school meetings do count towards your 15 hours of volunteering.
