THEME: All About OWLS

SHAPE: Octagon

COLOR: Grey (Bring your Grey collage item on Monday)

Our focus will be discovering all we can about OWLS over the next two weeks! We will be learning many facts about these interesting RAPTORS. Some of the questions we will answer during this unit include; What do they eat? Where do they live? What is their life cycle? What is a Raptor? Why do they have feathers? How do owls move, see and hear? We will also be identifying their body parts and different owl species.  Listening to owl calls will certainly be a “hoot”!

WORD WALL WORDS will include: Owl, Raptor, Nocturnal, Talons, Beak, Feathers,

Do you have access to an owl pellet?

If you are interested in donating an owl pellet for us to dissect, we would love it!

Awesome Additions to our unit on OWLS include:

Katy Jo Turner, Author of the book Who Cooks for You? Will be coming to MMSA on Oct. 25th. Synopsis: How's a Hungry barred owl supposed to find breakfast? Who Cooks for Youuu? is what Howie the barred owl says.
The call can mean many things, but today Howie is hungry for breakfast. Today he's really asking, "who cooks for you?" Will anyone answer before the sun rises? If you wish to purchase a book, Katy Jo will gladly personalize your copy. Order forms have been sent home. Simply return the order form by Oct. 23rd with cash or check made out to Katy Jo Turner. Books are specially priced at $19.00 which includes tax.

U of M Raptor Center Field Trip. We will be visiting the Raptor Center at the U of M on November 7th. This is a special experience to see live owls and other beautiful raptors the U of M is rehabilitating.
