Overview

Eighth graders study the geography, economic and government structures and cultures of locations around the world.  The class uses World Geography by Holt, Rinehart and Winston.

End of Week 18:  Friday, January 12, 2018

Congratulations to the National Geographic Geography Bee winner who will compete during Catholic Schools Week in the MMSA bee.  Students voted to start studying Southern Europe.  We started our map and finished Friday with our usual World Current Event.  Monday is Martin Luther King Day.

End of Week 17:  Friday, January, 5, 2018

Happy New Year!  This week students presented their country projects on Latin America.  Friday marked the first day of preliminary rounds for the National Geographic Geography Bee!  We will finish next week.

End of Week 16:  Wednesday, December 20, 2017

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  When we return in 2018, students will finish and present their projects and start the National Geographic Geography Bee.

End of Week 15:  Friday, December 15, 2017

Students are working on their projects on a Central American or South American country.  Friday we took a break for our usual World Current Event assignment.

End of Week 14: Friday, December 8, 2017

Students finished Ch. 7 Mexico this week.  We played Kahoot and then took an open book and notes test on Thursday to allow students to prepare for Science Fair.  Friday was our usual World Current Event Assignment.

Students have almost finished their unit on Mexico and will take a test next week.  Friday was our usual World Current Event Assignment.

End of Week 12:  Tuesday, November 21, 2017

Students learned about Mexico's earliest people.  Tuesday we had a Thanksgiving party on a world scale.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

End of Week 11:  Friday, November 17, 2017

Students finished presenting their projects and completed their physical and political maps of Mexico.  Friday was our usual World Current Event assignment.

End of Week 10:  Friday, November 10, 2017

Students completed a test on Canada and started their unit on Mexico.  There was time to work on their project and Friday was their World Current Event assignment.

Students wrapped up their Canada unit and had some time to work on their World Problem project.

End of Week 8: Friday, October 27, 2017

Students started working on their World Problem projects using LucidPress this week.  We also continued our unit on Canada and finished with our World Current Event Assignment.

This was a short week due to MEA.  Students focused on Canada's geography by completing a political and physical map.

End of Week 6:  Friday, October 13, 2017

Students started the week with a test.  The next couple of days were interrupted with high school visits, the last NWEA test and band.  We were able to start our unit on Canada with a discussion, a video clip and a map.  Friday was our usual World Current Event assignment.

End of Week 5:  Friday, October 6, 2017

Students focused on their types of economies and governments with a group activity.  They also used their online textbook to complete a review of the same information.  Our week ended with our usual World Current Event and map assignments.  There will be a test on Monday, October 9.

The eighth graders finished their map skills unit with a test on Tuesday and then started more general information about types of economies and governments.  Friday was our usual World Current Event and map assignments.

I enjoyed seeing everyone for the Parent Information Night.  If you could not attend, I will email you the information.  This week students finished their map skills review packet.  Friday was our usual World Current Event and map assignments.

Monday students reviewed the 9/11 attacks and how the terrorist attacks changed our world.  The rest of the week we started a map activity with a partner.  Students did have a break on Wednesday due to the NET retreat.  Friday marked the first day of our weekly World Current Event assignment.  Students did a nice job.

The eighth graders off to a great start.  The received their syllabus and textbook.  They completed their "Getting to Know You" assignment and practiced their first world current event assignment.
